My Poetry to Date

Verses that sing in the air and catch in the wind
They flow from my pen as new ways I find
My mind is at rest as I sit here and write
About all of the things that make me feel right
I've written of love and lakes still and clear
About my wife and children that I hold so dear
Aberfan* and Senghenydd* were hard to then pen
I saw grown men cry as they laboured then
The hardest of all for me to sit down and write
As I sit here so quiet in the dead of the night
Was of Annie Mulholland* who's no longer here
But a principled woman whom you had to endear
I've faced all my quiet times with stoical ease
As my mind drifts wherever to suddenly freeze
For days I am quiet as my minds far away
But when it returns the sun comes out to play
Tenovus writing has broadened my scope
To try different formats for this is my hope
I'll write in a way so contentment I'll find
To ease all my tensions and let me unwind
*Annie Mulholland was a cancer campaigner I was proud to have worked with in a small way in setting up the first "Cancer VOICES Event" in Cardiff before she was taken away from us by Ovarian Cancer on the 24th of May 2016
*Aberfan saw one hundred and forty four (mainly children) killed.
*Senghenydd saw five hundred killed.

Hello Edward,
Hello Edward,
i can imagine this was a hard piece to write. It can sometimes take minutes to come up with the right words to express what we're feeling, but at other times it can take days, even months to put down our most intimate thoughts.
I always look forward to reading what you have to say in your poems. It must be so hard to loose someone who had such an impact on the big C. I was reminded of my own dad who I lost to cancer. We struggle to understand why! But thankfully time does heal.
Annie Mulholland sounds like a woman devoted to the cause, makes you wonder why she was taken.
A poem from the heart.
Jenny.
