I don't think the Bible
I don't think the Bible really reads like a fable story, — it is written as history, and has more authentication than many characters we are confident are historical, I gather. It ties in with the witness of creation, too. We can't know anything really about God unless he discloses clearly to us, and as he came into the world to rescue, he has told us about it all so that we can have confidence and know him.
