You clipped my wings
when she left you
said I'd be a good companion
And I saw you eating alone
day after day
after you watched me
day after day.
You set me down
cage by a window
and I watched you fill the feeders
my eyes pressed to the world.
my eyes pressed to the world.
I sang for you first thing
longed for you to uncover a lost translation
before dusk spread its wings.
No sooner had you blanketed me that night
I dreamt your heart would open again
reach out for someone new
with the courage to set me free

This one really lingers in
This one really lingers in the mind after you've read it. It's multi-layered, sad, and disturbing, but with that nod to hope at the end. One of those I'll come back to.
