Bed. Late
You arrived before me
football matches in your ears
all irate
lights were out
stumbling to get in
Your back a wall
almost touching mine
our only symmetry, left behind
You and me
pinned to these edges
until morning rescued night
But then I recalled your face,
early dates
my impatience worn to bits
all tied up with your lipstick lips
dinner for two;
shared forks and spoons
eyes plucked from our silhoettes
by candles we both lit
tongues a fire, like twisting flames
And I dodged sleep all night
so you would stay with me.
