Today I saw myself in butterflies,
moving jerkily as if lost,
yet having some place to go.
Busy, busy
cramming
it
in,
joyous freedom
from the captive
chrysalis,
fluttering flight,
erratic
angles,
hither and
thither.
I followed one.
It made figure of eights with another -
going to kiss and then pulling away.
Landed, breathless, on the brightest flower
it mouthed messages with blinking wings.
I listened intently and attempted to translate.
"I am here for days not years,
no time to spend on exhausted fears,
words not enough to describe such delight,
of soaring speedily to this amazing height.
I saw you there adrift in my world,
tiny creature, great joy to behold."
