Catching the Train

As I walked along the pedestrian overpass, I took a glance northward and saw my train approaching.
At the rate of speed in which I was walking I knew I’d never make it to the depot on time. Being that my running speed was on a par with my walking speed, I felt that my options in the get-a-move-on department were nil.
Yet, there was something deep inside that insisted I take bold action. And, having sat through many an action/adventure movie in my time, I knew what I had to do.
As the train rattled it’s way beneath me, I climbed over the railing of the overpass, took a deep breath, and dropped myself on top of the speeding train.
Then all went black.
During my convalescence in the hospital, I realized my error. You do not leap onto the top of a speeding train when the said train is coming toward you. You do it as it as the train is moving away from you. Thus avoiding having your skull smashed in at the base of the aforementioned overpass.
Would I do it again? Yes. I’m not one who likes to admit defeat. And now that I’m made to wear permanent protective headgear (as there are still pieces of my cranium scattered about the railroad yard), I feel quite confident that I will have better success in the future.
And remember, if done properly, riding the train is still the safest means of transportation.
