Shots fired
don't like 
the sound
of those words
 
but they make 
a good headline
when the world's 
at its worst
 
all the journals 
will rage on
about who is 
to blame
 
say it's just
an old story
that all started
with Cain
 
I don't mean
to sound jaded
but I'm as numb
as they come 
 
and my nation
grows dumber
it's one big
son of a gun
 
can't hear the sound
of our own minds
for all the flying
debris
 
that comes over
the air waves
aimed at you
and at me
 
and the world
will keep spinning
round and round
she will go
 
next stop
North Korea
where it ends
no one knows

Such sadness and madness, individual and collective.  Thank you for finding some words to say about it.  I'm pretty speechless, to be honest.

it does make you wonder what it'll eventually take to get some sanity introduced re the gun laws, and just how scared the legistlators are of the gun lobby (I heard this used as the excuse many give for not supporting legislation on the news this morning)

Scared is right, insert. The NRA is a strong lobbying and their tenticles are wrapped around much of Washington. this whole business of not being able to contro the purchase of assault weapons by private citizens makes me sick.

North Korea really worries me, because as you said, the moron's moron is commander in chief of the apocalypse machine. Someone so egotistical and incredibly dumb is likely to set fire to the world and claim it as victory.

Two madmen with itchy trigger fingers. Not a pretty scenerio, celtic. I'm with you. Worries me to death. When an ultra conservative like Secretary of State Tillerson refuses to refute that he called Trump a moron it tells me to be prepared for the worse, and not the best of all possible worlds. Cheers, celtic.

I've pretty much completely shut down when it comes to reading or watching any news, Rhinannonw. Hoping all is well. I've been too much of a stranger around here of late. Always miss the place when I'm away too long.

Well said, Rich. When I was in the reserves here, we had less fire-power in our squadron than a bloke who rents a room in Las Vegas. Kind of makes sense, doesn't it? You make a good point: the whole economy's in on it. Great for news broadcasters. They even invent dramatic language to describe it all. But it'll all be fine so long as we go home and pray for the victims.

Hi, Kevin. Yeah, the media seems easily side-tracked to whatever will grab a viewer. Trump's philosiphy seems to be: If you say a thing often enough, peple will believe it to be true. "Fake news' being one of the prime examples. I hear this pharse at the pub being used by more and more people. People who get most of their news through social media. I do a lot of head shaking and ask for another round. Cheers.

Love that line, Ed. Donkeys and elephants all in the same cage. And so-clled liberal politicians shouldn't get a free pass by the left. I always like the Phil Ochs line in Love Me, I'm a liberal. "Liberal: Ten degrees to the left of center in good times. Ten degrees to the right of center if it affects them personally."

Good poem Rich about a truly horrible incident and the availabilty of the means of destruction. I like your dry use of phrases eg 'one big son of a gun'
