RELATIVITY

I looked into my love's dark eyes
And saw them full of stars;
If he should look into my heart
He'd find but prison bars
Will I see the Autumn fall
Before his ships return?
Snow and ice and wind and fire
Before his ships return.
*
What are those stars he sees beyond
Far-falling line on line?
Those are the days of all my years
Spiraling through time.
*
On his white horse the blizzard rides
To wield his icy blade;
Could sunlight wake my freezing heart
When love sleeps in the shade?
*
Long will I watch the broken years
Come sparkling with the snow -
He's in the rain, he's in my tears,
He's everywhere I go;
He's in the silence of the clouds,
As wind that braids my hair;
I'd follow him above the world
To find forgetfulness there.
*
Call to me a thousand times:
Never will I turn,
I'll not look back upon the sky
Until his ships return ........
*
But speed and distance slow his years,
Though Earth may freeze or burn,
And I'll be old and he'll be young
The day his ships return,
And I'll grow old while he's still young
The day his ships return.
