SILVER SKY RIDER

"Follow me," said the Silver Sky-Rider,
"Into my ship of shimmering blue;
Daylight dies and the night is falling,
Many the worlds that wait for you.
There is more beyond the Heaven
Than this Earth you walk upon;
There are nine billion names of God -
And I alone know all but one."

- - - "What do you want of me, alien man,
- - - With your hair like gold and your skin so wan;
- - - What do you want of me under the sky,
- - - With your silver suit and your glancing eye?"

"I will show you worlds a-plenty,
Take you away for a hundred years;
I'll bring you back before you're twenty -
Only the Earthborn ever fears.
Follow me," said the Silver Sky-Rider,
"Into the light of an alien sky;
You and I will live forever -
Man was never born to die".

- - - "What can I know of those galaxy-fields
- - - Where Time reaps suns like Catherine-wheels?
- - - Why should I leave this clear bright air
- - - To watch those pageants of despair?"

"Follow me," said the Silver Sky-Rider,
Over the rainbow curve of Time;
Galaxy wheels forever are turning,
Even their loneliness is mine.
Every star is a Soul in amber -
Which of them could be your own?
And which the world that moves around it -
Surely I know it is my own?"

- - -"Why would you take me far from home,
- - - Spilling my life where the dark stars roam?
- - - Why are you tempting my lonesome heart
- - - With worlds of which I have no part?"

"I am the Star-Child of forever,
I am the Light in every sky;
I am the sunrise of tomorrow -
I am the Man that cannot die.
Where will you be this time tomorrow?
Where will you be in a thousand years?
