A man called Joe once went down to the nursery to get a Christmas tree for the festive season. His father, whom the children called Grandpa, was coming over for Christmas to meet the wife and kids. He chose the most beautiful little tree still in its pot and took it home to the family. The wife and children adorned its branches with lovely lights and decorations, and then they placed wrapped up parcels under its branches, called 'Christmas Presents'. All this fuss made the little tree very happy, and he secretly wondered if one of the presents was for him. When Christmas morning arrived, the family handed out the lovely presents one by one amongst each other, with the little children tearing open the colorful wrapping and receiving lovely toys inside their boxes. Everyone got a present, even Grandpa, who got a splendid tobacco pipe. It was a joyous occasion, and the house was filled with love and warmth of family kinship. But where is my present, thought the little tree, when he saw that all the boxes had gone and none of them were meant for him. Then Joe said to his father, the old man that they called Grandpa, 'I guess I'll have to chuck out the Christmas tree tomorrow with the rubbish bin and all this Christmas wrapping and boxes.' This gave the little tree quite a shock. Not only did he not get any presents on Christmas Day, but they were planning on chucking him out with the garbage now that the party was over. But then Grandpa said, 'No Joe, I don't think so. A lovely little tree like this belongs in your beautiful garden, so that the children can enjoy it all of their days, not only on Christmas morning.' So, Joe and Grandpa went out and planted the little tree in a choice spot in the far corner of the garden, where it grew into a magnificent tall pine tree over the years, giving love and joy to all, especially the little ones. He could not have wished for a better Christmas present, and silently thanked the old man all of his life. Christmas is indeed a time for giving.
