The Stream of Life

A school of hake once swam up and down the same reef every day. They all swam with the stream and swam together as one. All of the fish except one smart fellow who was always being different and who always swam against the stream. As such he always swam in the opposite direction of the current and the large school of hake fish. ‘Why are you always being funny and swimming against the stream and against the school?’ asked one. ‘I suppose you think you are being funny, ' said another. ‘Stupid Fish.’ responded the last one in the school as he was going in the wrong direction again one day. So it went with all of the fish swimming as one and always swimming with the current. Except the odd one out who always went against it and who always took the criticism for his individualistic behavior. Until one day when the Captain of a large fish trawler came and worked out the current as he fished with his ship. He saw that all the fish were going in one direction; with the current, and put out his net in such a way as to catch them all. They would make a lovely meal and fetch him a handsome price. All the fish swimming with the stream all soon wound up in his net and were scooped from the water as the fishermen’s prize catch. All except the one who always swam against the stream. He swam away from the school of fish again and in doing so swam himself clean out of the Captain’s fishing net. It doesn’t always pay to tow the line. Sometimes one must dare to be different. Always be your own person, it will surely pay out in the end. Happy Fishing To All.
