Celestial Fame

Smidgens of light swirl toward Pandora's Box,
Jewels colliding in kaleidoscope inertia,
Like ungainly candidates in a karaoke
Contest in a bar full of roughnecks,
But the heart to pull it off remains.
*
Dejected, the moon climbs a few rungs
Higher in the celestial sphere, the order
Fixed as always, can never be broken,
Minor stars hopeless and unable
To break through to gain celestial fame.
*
Sirius, queen of the cosmos, titillates
With her scintillating gaze, through the
Smoky haze of the dark corners,
Through a commotion of asteroids
Her body glitters in a sequinned number.
*
Far lesser mortals stare up in wonder
As the aged performers transmit their
Music for the massed audience to enjoy,
And after that circle them in appreciation,
In dreams visit their intoxicating presence.
*
So they go circling us, thousands of years ahead,
As we mere mortals pursue our daily bread.
