As Time Taught Me

Don't sell the dreams and the beauty

To the highest bidder to secure your

Future, as time taught me.

Don't let slow change degrade

Your view of the world on exchange

For your soul, as time taught me.

Don't let lies twist their thorns deep,

Or let the thoughts of others derail

Your dreams, as time taught me.

Don't allow the wonder of youth

To be clouded by the sour fruit

Of  old age, as time taught me.

Try to make allowance for the ideas

Of others, let variety open your mind

To difference, as time taught me.

Try to help your own to find their feet

But don't expect to change the world

Or turn tables, as time taught me.

Take time to see the good accumulated,

The wealth of memories banked

In your subconscious, as time taught me.

Try to see the glory in the struggle,

The humour and irony in the daily grind,

The minutiae of life, as time taught me.
