Opening the Sixth Seal

There is no beauty anymore,
My shadow thins away as evening falls.
Days never seemed this long
When I was with you.
I join those with eyes fixed on their feet,
Unable to focus,
Even as the sun sets red over the city towers
And browned leaves drop from crooked boughs.
God's green creation has turned cold -
The Winter chill bites when you're alone.
Now I'm supposed to remember the bad times,
All the vicious, hateful things we've said and done.
Like the look in your eyes as you slapped me
Again,
Or the way I felt when I saw you
Dancing like that with someone else.
But now it's done I'm not glad it's over.
If only I could imagine a Strauss waltz
Playing through your window,
Then I could defame,
Dename, this soul-destroying pain.
But my heart has already entered the darkness
And while my Iago gently creeps
The sixth seal opens,
Bringing God's green creation crashing down
Around me.
