Tweet, Tweet! (Inspiration Point)

Tweet, Tweet!
(Friday 13th January, 2012)

I joined the Twitterverse; made my page pretty first,
then learnt the way it works. Now, I get all the news:
it breaks as coffee stews, so fast I get confused!

I’m clicking on each link; I’m reading what they think;
forget to eat or drink. Tight character limit;
try to find words that fit; go mad re-writing it!

I read the feed at speed; an overwhelming greed
for information freed. This is where we share our
observations; devour, post by post, hour by hour

our ‘followed’ people’s ‘tweets’; unwrap like precious sweets
and stuff our eyes and bleat, bleat like a flock of sheep!
The call goes out: Retweet! Retreat! A lack of sleep…

Try to keep track of it, pieces I want to click,
for words fly, flow and flit! I stalk celebrities,
fear not legalities; they air their petty grieves

and I just read, and read. Cold is my cup of tea,
forgotten beside me. I’m high on good stories:
altered apostrophes, train lines, other glories…

The papers just repeat; yesterday’s Twitter feed
laid out again to see. Radios just echo
things we already know, and TV moves too slow.

You never know, they say, what happens yesterday…
My parents share hot news, and they just look confused
when I say, ‘Yes, I heard: it was on Twitter first!’

I’m in the Twitterverse; I’m sharing fit to burst;
I’m plagued by this new curse, addicted to the spin
as conversations ring… what will tomorrow bring?
