Unsaid
(A Villanelle-ish)
Jennifer Pickup 26.02.2024
I have all these words that remain unsaid,
They disappear when I pick up the phone –
Silence haunts me and the lines they go dead.
I think we both need to put this to bed,
Tie loose ends tight and then both let this go –
I have all these words that remain unsaid.
We both cut our bonds, made a gap that bled,
And neither of us dare to mend those wounds –
Silence haunts me and I feel darkness spread.
Like statues we can’t seem to move ahead,
Frozen feelings have seen too many moons –
I have all these words that remain unsaid.
My heart won’t build a bridge, nor will my head,
I can’t talk to you; you don’t contact me –
Silence haunts me as my heart it plays dead.
Between you and I there still hangs a thread –
Sometimes I worry we’ll never be free.
I have all these words that remain unsaid –
Silence haunts me, as does Time’s heavy tread.

Sounds like a situarion where if there still is a thread of connection, saying just something small, anything, may open the door to some progressing communication rather than trying to say all the haunting 'unsaids'. Rhiannon

Congratulations! This is our Pick of the Day 27th February 2024
A successful attempt at a fiendishly difficult form of poetry, and that's why it is today's pick of the day.
Well done.

On two levels a very good
On two levels a very good poem; using the difficult Villanelle form to portray an unresolved situation so that it loops back upon itself - for me brilliant Jennifer, and golden cherries as well!
