I forgive you my sweet darling
For I see what I have done
Loving you has been so easy
But for you im not the one
I look at you and see you clearly
But for you its not the same
Maybe I should have seen it earler
Guess that Im the one to blame

So time has come to say goodbye my love
I wish it could have been forever
But lets just kiss and wipe our tears away
Now we,ll never be together

Yesterday it seemed that we were set
To travel lifes long journey through
Then today I found the notes you wrote
And realised I,m wrong for you
Looking back to when we first met
I knew I loved you from the start
I tried to kid myself you loved me too
But it wasn,t in your heart

So time has come to say goodbye my love
I wish it could have been forever
But lets just kiss and wipe our tears away
Now we,ll never be together

Your hidden diary told me many things
How you,ve tried so very hard
To be the person that i want you to be
But you,ve played your final card
You wrote of someone you have loved so long
And your trying to break free
I thought I,d found a way to win you back
Then realised that its not me

So time has come to say goodbye my love

Lovely rhythm created by the rhyme scheme and repetition in this poem, makes it really flow well when reading. However, I feel it would be improved by proper punctuation. Just to note that an apostrophe (') is used to denote a missing letter (in, for example we'll), not a comma. As for other punctuation, poetry should be punctuated as if it were prose. Read it aloud and you should see where the commas and full stops should go. J x

This instantly put me in mind of a Bread/David Gates song. 'I found her diary underneath the tree and started reading about me.' It's a beautiful song from one of the greatest songwriter's of all time. This is good too and with the repeat of the time to say goodbye stanza I'm guessing it's a song rather than a poem, or certainly could be. I've been in exactly that situation, but from the other side of the fence, wanting to break away but not wanting to cause hurt. So this one hit home with me. Nice one.

Wow thanks Sooz. "The Diary" is one of my favourites of all time. I wrote this so long ago I can't remember why! But i put it on my Ipod ( me singing!) and i indulge myself sometimes!
