TRAIN JOURNEY
The girl stands in the same place waiting for the train,
So I get there earlier to stand there and be a pain.
And so that she will stand close and I can smell her hair,
When the train arrives, I let her on first and offer the last
chair.
She smiles and sits down before pulling out a book,
I try to turn away from her but I cannot help but look.
The train stops again and more people push in and I am against the
door.
I turn angry and shout, "I can't move in anymore."
An old lady pushes on and stands in the aisle rubbing her knee,
The girl looks up and offers the lady her seat and stands up next to
me.
She holds onto the same pole and her hand is only an inch from
mine,
I catch her eye but she looks down, "Do you always get the Northern
Line?"
She tilts her head to one side, "I think that you know that I
do."
I fake surprise, but she continues, "Don't think that I haven't noticed
you."
"Sometimes you stand where I like to stand, waiting for the
train."
"I know, sorry. But I figure I have nothing to lose, everything to
gain."
"You don't even know me." She closes her book and starts to
smile.
"I know that you are pretty. And I have wanted to talk to you for
awhile."
"Just didn't know how to go about it." The train jerks to a halt.
She leans forward, "I wanted to talk to you too. So it's not just your
fault."
I grin and look at her, "So maybe we should go for a drink?"
"Maybe. Give me your telephone number and I will have a think."
I write down my number and just catch the smell of her hair.
"Give me a ring. I have to go now, the next stop is Leicester
Square."
"Okay, I might give you a call." She pauses, "Take care, Bye."
"Okay. Take care." I step off the train and feel totally high.
I feel the guy behind me pat me on the shoulder, "Nice one,
mate."
"But just a warning I gave her my number once, she never called. Think
her name is Kate."
