The Enlightened One
The enlightened one came to show us the way
He slept at night and worked by day
He gave us his words to make them our own
But we took them and built great temples of stone
We made objects of gold and silken brocades
And we enforced his words with sharp steel blades
The enlightened one came to set us all free
But we were ensnared by terminology
We punished and slew and said obey or be damned
The Hypocrisy grew at the Cleric's command
The people obeyed and were bound and restricted
The men of the book had them boa constricted
The enlightened one came so we could be saved
But in the name of freedom we were enslaved
Now the tide is turning and along we are swept
On a sea of diversity we fight to accept
So desperate to find a world that is free
Of bloodshed, hatred and pious bigotry
