Chapter Twelve
David walked down the stone path of Daniel’s house, straightening his tie. As he reached the door it swung open. “Come in, David we’ve been waiting for you,” Daniel ushered David in and looked at his watch. “It’s nearly twelve, you were cutting it fine.”
“Thank you, sorry I’m late Daniel. I hope you all haven’t been waiting too long? I had to finish a report on my computer before I left.”
“No, not at all. Let me take your coat and please go through. The others are waiting for you.”
David walked into the front room. Jeremiah sat in a chair in the corner and was speaking to the other brethren present. “Come sit down David. I would like to introduce you to some old friends of mine.” David took a look around the room at the faces he had never seen before. Jeremiah gestured to a man close to him who sat with a pointed nose supporting glasses on the end of it and white short cropped hair that covered most of his balding head. “This is Mark.” David took hold of his hand to greet him. He stood up and smiled, shaking David’s hand firmly.
“It’s a pleasure to meet you young man, well done.” David smiled with a puzzled look on his face. “You’re welcome, but I’m not sure why I’m being congratulated.”
“All in good time,” Jeremiah interjected, “and this is Peter.” This was also an elderly gentleman with a kind look on his face covered in a long white beard.
“Hello.”
“Finally, this is Timothy.” He was the youngest of all the men, and had an air of assuredness about him.
“Nice to meet you.”
“Now that all the formalities are out of the way, we should begin.” Daniel had crept back into the room and sat down in the corner, pen in his hand waiting to take notes.
“Before I begin,” Jeremiah continued. “I must tell you, David, that what I am going to say must stay in this room. It is imperative that this remains a secret within these four walls until Luther, if he is the one, demands to know. Is that clear?” David nodded his head nervously, “It must not be known to anyone else. If it was, it would mean the end of mankind.” David looked around the room. All eyes were on him making him feel like he was being judged.
“You can all depend on me, I swear.”
“I know David, I think that’s why fate placed you in the right place at the right time. Now is everyone okay for me to start?” Jeremiah looked around the room and each man nodded in turn.
“Then I shall begin. Before the earth was created at the beginning of time, two energies, made up of atoms, were locked in battle in the universe. The name of these two energies or atoms were matter and antimatter, or if you like, light and darkness.” Jeremiah looked around to see if everybody was paying attention and were able to keep up. “They were constantly in a state of conflict, charging and crashing together one minute and repelling each other the next. For millions of light years this went on, and each time they came together the fighting and conflict became more intense, until one day the two opposing atoms smashed together with such force it caused them to split into tiny pieces. Some of these pieces ceased to exist and just floated off into space. However, the two remaining pieces of both sides came together with the influence of gravity. This final collision brought together the two pieces like a jigsaw puzzle. At last, after millions and millions of light years of conflict, it had taken one moment in time for the big bang to occur. ” David looked at Daniel in amazement as the story unfolded. “These two tiny fragments of atoms, which had now come together, started to shine in a different light to what they were shining before. This light was much brighter and it totally blinded the side of darkness. As the two new atoms shone and moved together in harmony, the mass of the other two opposing sides stopped their conflict to try to understand this anomaly. In this moment of silence and contemplation, the beginning had started: the light and dark atoms wanted to know more about this new light now being emitted. They decided to head towards this new light, but found they could not become part of it as it was too bright for the dark atoms. The atoms of light on the other hand did not want to enter because of the presence of the dark atom. Consequently, most of the dark atoms, realising they could not enter the light, started their fight again with the light atoms. Some of the light atoms, deciding they did not want to enter the light, retaliated. However, a few curious atoms on both sides remained where they were, trying to learn and understand more about this new light, watching, waiting patiently until it would reveal its secret.
“How long would it take for this process to reveal its secret?” David interrupted like an excitable child.
“Thousands of years David, and all these years passed until their patience paid off. Now the two atoms were perfectly unified and were ready to reveal their secret. At once, a chain reaction started in which the light atoms humbled themselves to enter the light and mix with the dark atoms, and the dark atoms had to give up their negativity and find themselves worthy enough to enter the light. It was not long before the two initial unified atoms became billions and billions as more of them released themselves from the universal conflict to join the new light which today we call the sun.” David gasped at this revelation, which met with a hiss of disapproval from Peter. David lowered his head in embarrassment and allowed Jeremiah to continue. “The sun, in its gravitational sphere, could only sustain a certain amount of energy, otherwise it would explode. To resolve this, the sun had to expel some of its energy in periodic explosions. These explosions sent a great energy at terrific speed into space. When this energy had cooled from the immense heat of the sun, it started to form into matter. That matter is now what we call the planet Earth. It had found its perfect place in space, neither too far or too near from her mother, the sun. Earth now began to live and breathe, sustained by the light and heat of the sun. Its water and oxygenated atmosphere began to create life.” Jeremiah leant forward to take a sip of water before continuing. “Earth existed without man for millions of years in its perfect surroundings, until one day another explosion of the sun sent forth the original matter and anti-matter from their place of light towards the earth. It took seven days to reach Earth, and when it did it broke through the atmosphere, falling from the heavens and down towards the earth. In its descent, it took in oxygen and started to breathe until finally splashing into the oceans extinguishing its fire. Underwater, this energy evolved until mankind finally emerged from its depths. Now humanity had been created by the four elements: first, born of fire from the sun, air breathed life into them as they broke through the atmosphere, water gave them the second birth after extinguishing the flames and earth is where now we all stand. All these men and women now walked the earth in total innocence. They all lived in harmony and the peace that still resonated from the energy from which they were born. This energy is what we call love. Soon intelligence grew and it wasn’t long before they were exploring and searching the four quarters of the globe. Individual tribes had settled with different customs, cultures and beliefs. They had learnt how to grow their own food and create things out of wood and metal, and begun to use the four elements to make their lives easier. However, in their laziness, and with their lives now seemingly so complicated, they started to forget where they had come from. Mankind had now created their own paradox: they had forgotten the beautiful light from where they had come and were now studying philosophy and mathematics in the hope of remembering. Their intelligence was taking them further away from the truth. All was not lost: one man, a leader of the people in the East, vowed never to forget where he had come from. He gave up all his worldly possessions and lived in poverty. He instilled in his people the memory from where they had come and told them never to forget. They were further instructed that they were to live with that perfect moment of peace and harmony that had started at the beginning of time. This remarkable man from the East helped himself to stay in touch with whom he belonged to and where he came from by going into the desert and contacting the light from above. Here, he would make his daily prayers at twelve when the sun was at its highest. Unfortunately, it was at this time and this place where he met his untimely death due to the master of the West.
David, now you see from where we get our beliefs, rituals and customs, which were created just after the creation of the world. I am sure all brothers here today know the story. We practise the ritual every meeting in various degrees and its beauty is impressed on our minds. However, there is another part which nobody knows except myself and the other ancient brethren gathered here today. That information,” he leant forward and said quietly, “I will now relate to you David because I believe that it is time to do so.” “After those events in the East, thousands of years ago, my ancestor Joshua wrote down all the events that had happened on a scroll before leaving the devastation behind him. He described a falling star which alluded to the fall of the Master of the East and the loss of his loving nature. He now represented the fall of mankind. He went on to write about how this Master of the East had given up everything for revenge after what had befallen him at the hands of the Master of the West. The murderous attack had left a wound or mark on the Master of the East’s head. It remained there to remind him of his pain and anguish, and more importantly to help him to eventually remember who he really is. David, you know I have seen this wound on Luther’s head. I saw it when we first met him. ”
“Yes,” David replied in astonishment. “I remember you turning pale and dropping your cane at the sight of it.”
“Yes, I did become quite faint with excitement, didn’t I? Joshua wrote about two other signs. One was the befriending of a lion and all the beasts of Earth. He said that the Master from the
East asked for the power of the lion over man to enable him to destroy mankind after seeing his people being murdered. David, was it not a glorious sight to see Luther in the lion’s cage safe and unharmed?”
“Yes, it was quite an extraordinary sight, something I will never forget.”
“The third and final sign was about accepting and becoming the light. Joshua had witnessed and absorbed some of the light all those years ago. He knew its secret and things not of this world. No man to date has ever been able to decipher the ancient word; only he who knew its true meaning could do that. Joshua and his family fled the devastation which ensued, taking the scroll with him. They had a safe journey and settled down with a loving peaceful tribe in the south, far away from the destruction of war. It was here that he and his family started communicating what had happened in the East. However, they did not give the whole story, only a watered down version veiled in allegory, because he did not want everybody to know these secrets. It was not long before people came to his house to hear his amazing story, and he told it over and over again. The years passed, his wife eventually died and his children grown up and went their own way in the world, except one son who loved his father dearly. Now all Joshua had left was his one son and his followers. Among his followers were three men he trusted with his life. These three men and his son had for thirty years attended every meeting and ritual. They kept silence when it was needed and spoke when it was necessary. When on his deathbed, Joshua called them in. He asked his son to remove the scroll from inside a sacred golden chest placed on the altar in the corner of the room. His son obediently did as his father asked. Taking it in his frail hands, Joshua looked at the four men at the foot of his bed and spoke: ‘My son, I love and trust you dearly. With this in mind, in my dying moments I entrust you with the fourth part of the scroll.’ He took a knife and cut along the bottom of the scroll. ‘This part contains the secret of becoming the light. Guard it well my son.’ He then cut the remainder of the scroll into three pieces, each describing what had happened and each containing a certain way to see the signs of the one returning to Earth. The three other men were each given a piece and charged with its safety. They were then informed that they were to go from this room and take their families to the west, north and east respectively; his son was to remain in the south and take over leadership of his people. In these four quarters of the globe they were to spread the word and re-enact the rituals we know today. They were also informed that they should not come together at the same time in fear that the whole scroll would fall into the wrong hands. The only time they should all come together was when all the signs were in place. Then should the four ancestors reunite. If that did not happen in their lifetime, then they had to hand down their pieces of scroll to their eldest child from generation to generation until the time was right. This is the reason we are gathered here today. I am Joshua’s descendant. Timothy, Peter and Mark are, how shall we say, old friends.”
“Forgive me Jeremiah,” David said, “but how did you make contact and find out who had their own piece of the scroll?”
“Well David, from each generation, a secret worthy man or woman was selected from their tribe to travel to the other quarters of the globe. When they reached their destination, they communicated using the signs and words to the holders of the scroll who in turn reciprocated.
These travellers or messengers were then welcomed into their homes for comfort and refreshment until they decided to return to their own village to relay the intelligence that all was in order.”
David’s eyes were wide with awe. He was hearing the truth about life and he was now playing a part in it, a part which he did not yet understand. “If you please gentlemen, it is time for us to communicate like we have done from time immemorial, for the time is at hand.” Jeremiah stood and gestured with a hand to his companions. One by one they stood and approached Jeremiah to communicate a word. Timothy was the first.
“A-Mia-Hey, brothers, I greet you as a Master of the North and as the Ruler of Water. May our work swim in the ocean of life. In line with our great creator, I salute you.” He went forward to each brother and ran his finger under their eyes.
“May the water from your tears I have collected return to the ocean and remind us of the loss of the Master from the East and may they continue till the one has returned.”
“All hail,” the four of them said in unison. Mark was next.
“Fly-Isis-Fly, brothers, I greet you as the Master of the West and as the Ruler of Air. May our work fly and be carried on the four cardinal winds in peace and harmony. In line with our creator, I salute you for the second time.” He stepped forward and placed a finger on each other brothers’ mouths in turn.
“May you breathe in all that is good and breathe out all that is bad, especially the memory of such a horrific end to our beloved Master. My finger is a guard until the return of the one who will release me from my charge.”
“All hail,”
“Set-Death,” Peter had now begun, “brothers I greet you as the Master from the East and as a Ruler of Earth. May our work grow in the soils of the Earth. In line with our creator, I for the third time salute you.” He took hold of each brother’s head and held it affectionately in his arms. “May this token remind you that we do this in memory of the Master from the East who was buried and comforted in an earthly embrace for forty days until the earth gave him new life.”
“All hail.” Jeremiah was the last to stand. “Our-Ra-New, brothers I greet you as the Master of the South and as the Ruler of Fire. May our work be shielded from the eyes and hands of unworthy men. May the heat and fire of our faith help us to continue in line with our creator. Brothers for the fourth and final time I salute you.” He walked forward and covered their eyes with his hands and one by one he told them: “May your eyes be in darkness until the one decides to reveal himself. We do this in memory, respect and remorse of the darkness his world was plunged into.”
“All hail, all hail.”
