Weariness
Bone aching, strength sapping weariness.
Weariness like climbing an endless mountain
Weariness like wading through a boundless swamp
Weariness like cutting down trees in an infinite forest
Weariness like reading a thousand Austen novels
Weariness like watching ten score political broadcasts
Weariness like a debilitating disease.
The mountain is in his head
The swamp is in his heart
The forest surrounds his soul
He doesn't read Austen
He won't watch politicians
He has no pyhsical illness.
The weariness remains.

A very effective structure
A very effective structure and I really like the limited punctuation, the statments of fact( rather than emotional respones) are quite hard hitting, brutal almost. I would pray these feelings pass soonest, xx

I agree with Shirley - great structure, love the way it's split into two halves, and *sigh* this poem is how I feel! Thank God it's now half term for me ;) Well done on this one, David!

Tremendously effective, this

Tremendously effective, this one, David. It had a great impact on me, which is indeed how it is intended to make one feel. Think I'll go and have a lie down in a darkened room, as they say;-)
Joking aside, I can only echo Shirley's words and hope the feeling soon passes.
