Jumping around!

I am a riddle
Having the fluffyness of a towel
A large family
I can be biggish,
But no bigger than a football.
Living under the ground,
Can get quite dark!
I live in a hole in the ground.
Can be a pet to children or adults!
Jumping around I go!
