In my neighbourhood,
The sirens wail back and forth
And Romany lads whoop and tap the horse
That trots and pulls the trap
Along the parade, then back again.
In my neighbourhood,
The passersby nab the best bits
From charity shop steps
And the newsagent never forgets
To wish you luck.
Then once in a while
In my neighbourhood,
The bookie smiles and chats
And hoovers rubbish and fags
Off the pavement.
