Calvary

For all my trips around the sun,
I reach this place where
all my friends are gone,
with their forgivings
blown away like sand.
Who’s left to absolve me now,
my sins, my wrongs, the dark
stubborn truths,
of all the things I’ve done,
the inked reminders
of one hundred thousand sins,
tattooed upon the skin,
more permanent than the stars,
the evidence that cold arrogance,
was my lodestone,
and my Judas.
Pity will not help me now,
what’s cast is cast,
for all those trips around the sun,
I have learned too late.
I should not have begun.

Highly effective
Few words but a haunting combination of bleakness and regret. Well done Leander.

I've only just come across
I've only just come across this for some reason. And noticing your 'teaser' first, was caugjht by your description of 'trips around the sun' and noted how many I have had. But as you entitle it 'Calvary' and say 'atonement not guaranteed', I wondered why you focussed on friends' forgiveness. What is always there is the purpose of Calvaary that atonement from God is always available, if we can now cast the arrogance off and own up and ask. Surely that's the amazing offer to regrets!
