Competing Interest

Over dinner, you tell me all;
Bending to whispered thoughts
Sunburnt terracotta tendrils
Wilfully un-tether
Soft, shining chignon.
A careless, pinned elegance.
Breathless, dandelion laughter
Spins a dizzy defiance
Around this crowded room,
Shooing tearstain shadows
From elf-wood eyes
Glowing
Green as Gaias bounty.
My young sprite,
Bright first-born.
With these same hands
I would gather
You to me in love
Yet
would crush the one
who broke your heart
So soon.
