Lovage

Amanita toadstools totter
Spotted July maids,
Sunhats hanging heavy
On supine cygnet neck,
Hang-gliding dandelions
Teasing breezes dither,
Sweeping merry weather
Over Meanwood Beck.
Tadpoles all grown up now
Flipping through our toes,
Slipping in the undergrowth
Where Ramsons grow.
We burrow deep into the bank
Rhodedendron nest,
Sharing out slim Milky Bar
Chocolate hero blessed.
Briar scrambled scratchknee run
To local Cricket ground,
Break our cover, match nearly over
Cheer them glowing white,
Tumbledown dark passageway
As Swallows taking flight,
Back into the undergrowth
Heart pounding, out of sight.
Nettle stung bold ruddy glow,
Dock leaf medicine chest,
Holding hands, weary limbed
Those days were our best.
