BABYLON (I.P.)

It was the privilege of great King Solomon

To build Yahwe a Temple in Jerusalem; a Holy Place

To worship God on High, bringer of life, ruler of all.

But so corrupt did the King become -

This favoured son of David soon fell from grace

Lust, greed and envy were his downfall.

 

His sins were punished by the division

Of the Kingdom into two great parts;

Judah and Israel they became.

The King of fertile Babylon with great derision

Slaughtered thousands of good brave hearts -

Nebuchadnezzar was his unholy name.

 

As blessed Moses had long ago foretold

He destroyed that Holy Temple on the hill.

Shrouded in fire and smoke, Jerusalem grew dark;

He stole the sacred treasures, silver and gold.

So here I lie in Babylon, waiting still.

I am the Ten Commandments in Lord Jehovah’s Ark.

The Inspiration Points seem to become more and more difficult. You coped very well with this week's challenging phrase and produced an interesting historical angle. Well done.

Hi, Linda, you've managed to bring a lot of the history into sight quite neatly here, and the reason for the conquest/exile. It's interesting that though nothing was ever heard again definitely about the ark and its contents, those 10 commandments were remembered better when the Israelites were allowed to return to their land!

Must admit, it's all way over my head Linda. I seemed to do well at RE at school but was never really interested in the history of it. Guess I missed out.  But, you have done an excellent job and no doubt spent some time researching.  Well done.

You should pat yourself on the back for this one.  I wouldn't even attempt it.  It looked far too difficult for my pea sized brain though I have enough of it in working order to be able to appreciate this for what its worth.
