IN LOVING MEMORY

It’s your Birthday today my friend
- the first of pain and worry free.
Today you can enjoy the love
Of your extended family.
Today you can stroll in paradise,
Meet friends and loved ones so long gone;
You can hear the birds and smell the scents
And watch your garden carry on.
For it will bloom through all eternity,
No frosts to spoil; no blight to rot;
A beautiful legacy you left behind
To last forever, though you could not.
You sowed the seeds of a family
Of which you’ll always be a part,
And the biggest gift you gave them all?
The love of nature in each heart.
Your bravest deeds were never boasted,
Airborne adventures never told:
Fly like a bird now, if you want to
For you’re no longer sick, nor old.
So smoke your pipe amongst the dahlias
Until again we’re face to face;
There are few, like you, of whom it’s said:
‘He left this world a better place’
