I'll just keep chipping away at the sinews
Whittle it all down.
Piece by painstaking piece 
to a more manageable size.
Carve out the words from the creaking veins of the wood,
With blood seeping sap.
As my father did.
But the roots go deeper.
The origins, fibrils and interconnections, radicles
To my mutable sign.
C ++
Clear, use, employ, beauty.
Worthy of worship?
Do I adapt or run away?
With my plantpot pate.
Tendrils searching for water.
I touch and it bruises, changes,
Slips from my synapses.
Becomes other.
But always comes back,
Back to me,
To the radicle,
The root of sinew I've chipped away at.
Whittled down,
Piece by agonizing piece.
To a more manageable size.

Another good one London. I always like it when a writer identifies a theme (plant biology/human biology) and develops it to communicate the ideas. "Earth Heart 2" is an excellent example of this in practice. And then the idea of pre-destiny is enhanced at the end with the mirroring and the repetition of the beginning. One point if I may, I would look again at the double posed question (lines 13/14). Perhaps review this and blend the two into one – just a thought it works beautifully as it stands and congratulations on the cherries too by the way.

Thanks Highhat. I do try to be profound - it beats my everyday shallowness! Scratch - I am fascinated by nature and the art of writing. I think it goes hand in hand. Weird thing is I can't stand Heaney and that trite poetry of poems like 'digging' yet find myself on those self same themes time and again! I've always thought of the questions and 13/14 as two very separate ones but I love the fact that someone else has read it a different way! Aw thank you shoe! What a lovely comment. At times it does feel like carpentry when I write. Interesting comment blessing, can't pretend to know what it mean though.... Thanks Sue, always like my cherries to be complimented!

Can't stand the man! I grew up in Northern Ireland and they shoehorned him into every English lesson as soon as he even had a sniff of being the laureate. 'Snug as a gun'? Snug as my arse!

Hi Scratch! Thanks for welcoming me back. Been away for a bit but back with some bits and pieces to upload soon. Just followed up on your request to read 'Ode to my Grandfather'. Stunning piece! Your piece has a voice which I can imagine clearly in my head as I read. That's the level of description I am aiming for. Your poetry is so densely packed with images and connotations. A real piece to be proud of.
