What is a Marriage?

What is a marriage? What makes it different from a relationship? Is it a progression from a relationship? Does it mean you love more than you did before? Is it possible to love more?
What is a marriage? Is it creating a circle around both of you that contains hope, dreams; a family? Is it a circle that expands and grows as you expand and grow? Is it a place where above all else you feel- safe?
What is a marriage? Is it a partnership built on equality? Is it the up, the down, the yin, the yang? Is it a place of mostly peace?
What is a marriage? Is it where two souls who were always destined to meet, hold hands and say to the other ‘I’ve got you?’
What is a marriage? Is it a place of encouragement, of cheering the other on, of giving the other space, of most of all- listening?
What is a marriage?... A marriage is a place that moves with you wherever you go, it’s a path you walk along together, it’s a sunset you could sit and watch forever.
A marriage is rolling up your sleeves, its planting seeds, it’s cleaning up the mess, it’s putting the children to bed, it’s closing the door after a long hard day at work. A marriage is a smile, a touch on the arm, a bath run, a joke that softens the edges.
More than that, a marriage is a place of beauty, of memories made, of excitement yet to come, and of enjoying every single moment of it, here, now and forever.

I like that last but one
I like that last but one paragraph which seems to encapsulate both the committment of marriage, and the perseverance and growth through getting through the nitty gritty of life difficulties and hard work together, and working at things when irritations with each other come! Rhiannon

Seems very appropriate for a wedding. It would make a lovely piece to recite. You've set me thinking.
You've encapsulated something very precious. Something to aspire to. Something to treasure if you (are fortunate? or work hard?) to have it. Perhaps commitment is possible outside marriage? There are certainly disasters inside it.
A lovely inspirational piece.

I am not married nor have ever been, but I suppose it is not out of the bounds of some distant reality or even soft dream I may have.
But anyway
