Beyond Comparison

For us no news is good news, yet Sophocles disagreed.
“To me so deep a silence portends some dread event”,
he mused. But his pronouncement is likely to mislead
because everyone’s opinion is bound to be different.
It cannot be denied that we are physically dissimilar
and also that we hold opposite points of view.
I aspire to a small cottage, you yearn for a large villa,
I believe in equality, a sentiment you pooh-pooh;
intellectually we differ: you are ingrained in history,
while I am quite content to read about romance:
how we tolerate each other will remain a mystery.
We will not shift position and we’ll keep our stance.
Romantically, though, we overcome impediments,
we know each other’s feelings, we think in unison.
Our souls will meld and become one in sentiments.
Nothing else matters, our love’s beyond comparison.
