Every now and then
we hear that the life
of a fellow author
has come to an end.
 

It may be someone
we have never met
yet through their writing
became our friends.
 
We were always glad
to enjoy their work
written in verse
or else in prose.
 
We might not know
anything about them
but can recognise
the style they chose.
 
We know their names
or their nom de guerre
and they'll be forever
fixed in our memory.

 I didn't know Bradene as I think she was before my time, but to hear of two deaths in one week is very sad - yes they do become friends don't they, even if we've never met them

Valerie joined ABC in 2008 and was a very accomplished poet. She won an ABC competition in 2009 with this poem:

I learnt from her Facebook page that she lived in Handforth, as I do, but our paths regretfully never crossed.
In the last couple of years many members of ABCtales, as well as UKAuthors, have died and their talent will be missed.

I thought your poem was a befitting tribute on this sad news.

Hi Jenny, it was hearing the news of JoHn and Bradene's demise, as well as recollecting the death of others in the last couple of years, that set my train of thoughts in motion. 
Some I met and others I only knew by corresponding with them on this site but they are all remembered with affection.

I didn't know Well Wisher personally but he obviously made an impression on you and others that knew him too.

Hello Moya, how nice to hear from you. I hope you are keeping well.
Like you I didn't know John Nandy personally but only through his writing on ABC. Although it was his death that prompted me to write this, I wanted the poem to encompass all the others we met at readings or via this site who tragically lost their lives and with whom we created a bond.
I fondly remember meeting you and your dear husband at York and it was nice to put a face to a name.
I wish you good health.

Yes Kevin, it was a pleasure to spend an enjoyable evening with a lovely crowd, reading, chatting and supping the local ale.

I'd like that Moya but not in London as it is too far for me but York or Nottingham would be O.K.

Yes, I agree, Luigi, London would be too far me as well.  I was thinking of a possible venue in Louth, a small market town where I live, or Lincoln.  Would either of those be a feasible distance for you?  If not then maybe go back to York.  I remember The  Black Swan was the name of the pub in York.  It's just an idea at the moment but if there were enough people interested then I would try to get things sorted.  I would also have to speak to Insert as I'm not too sure if she would agree to this.

Moya,
as I don't drive, there is a train/bus journey from Stockport to Grimsby to Louth but it takes nearly four hours changing at Grimsby. My preferred solution would be York as it takes less than two hours from Stockport which is the nearest starting point for me. But let's see how things develop.
