A Great Escape

I was an inmate
of fort Alcatraz
but I soon left it
with extra pizazz.

The wardens believed
that convicts are daft.
They didn't imagine
we could build a raft 

to take three across
San Francisco bay.
leave the Rock behind,
and get right away 

We did and were glad
our preparations
proved to be beyond
our expectation.

We left three dummies
for the prison's staff,
we made our escape
and had the last laugh. 

our valiant attempt,
became nightmarish
and we were afraid
that we would perish.

Those on the island
delightedly cheered
thinking we were dead
as we'd disappeared.

But having survived
a tiring ordeal,
our secret hideout
we have to conceal

I and my co-villains have made terrible crimes, deserving of the electric chair which we shall get if the FBI ever finds our hideout. Some think it is at the bottom of the Pacific Ocean.

Have you read "Papillon" Luigi? A brilliant story one of the best I've read. I did not know that someone actually escaped from Alcatraz but then I've only seen the movies.

Yes, Nolan. I found the story of Papillon's extraordinary escape from Devil's Island absolutely fascinating. We know that he survived and became a free man which is more than we can say about the three men who escaped from the 'Rock' whose fate hasn't been ascertained with certainty. Even now, people speculate on whether they survived or drowned during their daring attempt.

The are lost of stories and movies about prison breaks. People must like the stories so ecciting. This one also I think was a movie.

You are right, Tom, a film was made in 1979 but I didn't see it. The FBI never found out if any of the three escapees survived or perished in the attempt.

Yes Luigi I saw that movie yes the story exactly but must have been a re-make it was much more recent. Brilliant film I must say. Papillon was a bit disapointing the book is much better.
