I was looking forward to take part

in a race I had taken to heart:

the rolling cheese competition.

I couldn’t accomplish my mission;

the organisers had called a halt

to the yearly contest by default.

It had been cancelled, it seems,

as they didn’t have enough teams

and besides it was no longer ‘cool’.

I was gutted and I looked a fool

as I stood there saying Please!

The final answer was: Hard cheese.

Actually I couldn't make it in the end Luigi - I was so disappointed! But apparently a good time was had by all and no doubt we will be hearing all about it as soon as they are all up and have rid themselves of their hangovers!

You caught the fun of it, even if you couldn't roll it!

An odd event, but the end of it seemed even odder. Odd phrase 'hard cheese' isn't it? Rhiannon

An odd event but one that provided fun and enjoyment to the villagers of Stilton which built a reputation on the cheese rolling event. I suspect that money, or the lack of it, was behind its end.
'Hard cheese' is a peculiar expression but I am getting used to the peculiarity of the English language.
