I, Myself and Me

I hope that my writing
is clear and makes sense.
I write in the present
and also in the past tense.

Some is biographical
but a lot is fiction.
It might be about crime
or the Nile expedition.

It shows I'm a writer
who is versatile.
I aim to entertain,
to make people smile.

It's not always easy
and it happens that
more often than not
my jokes fall flat.

I try not to be glib
or too sentimental
and avoid at all cost
being judgemental.

I've no time for angst; 
don't think I'm heartless
but I much prefer
to talk of happiness.

Forgetting bad memories
I endeavour to be
untroubled by anxiety,
relaxed and carefree.

Thanks for your nice words, Jenny. I always look on the bright side of life, so to speak. There is far too much misery around and negative thoughts. Oddly enough, this morning I found on Facebook the following quote by Ralph Waldo Emerson who seems to share my sentiments::

“Write it on your heart  that every day is the best day in the year.He is rich who owns the day, and no one owns the day who allows it to be invaded with fret and anxiety. finish every day and be done with it.

You have done what you could. some blunders and absurdities, no doubt crept in.
Forget them as soon as you can, tomorrow is a new day; begin it well and serenely, with too high a spirit
to be cumbered with your old nonsense.

This new day is too dear, with its hopes and invitations, to waste a moment on the yesterdays.”
