No Way Out (I.P.)

It is no use pretending
that it was a honeytrap,
even close friends admitted
his claims were utter crap.
He said ‘mission accomplished’
when he made his conquest
and declared that his action
had been for the best.
Declared that she told him,
in the strictest confidence,
that her ex-boyfriend
was prone to violence.
She knew what she wanted,
her thinking wasn’t woolly,
her aim was to get rid
of a domineering bully.
By her fluttering eyelashes
it was clear that her intention
was not only to ensnare him
but to gain his full attention.
He had realised afterwards
that she wasn’t a good catch
and their prospective union
had proved to be a mismatch.
Tried to break the engagement
and effect a swift retreat
but he found to his chagrin
that he had suffered a defeat.
In trying to woo her over
he had spent a lot of energy,
now that he needed to flee
he lacked an exit strategy.

Hello Luigi,
Hello Luigi,
What a bummer, If he does a runner! Sorry...couldn't resist. Another good take on the I.P.
I do so enjoy your poems, Luigi.
