How many times
did your face go red
on hearing the scorn,
the jeers, the catcalls
of those bullies
who took delight
in pointing out
your weaknesses
and shortfalls?
You certainly
took the insults
to heart.
But not even
the sharpest arrow
could penetrate
your armour.
You stuck
to your principles
and in the end
it was you
who came up
smelling of roses.
