A Simple Mind

Wu Chi, Wu Wei, T’ai Chi.
It was, I must confess,
a bit too deep for me.
I did not grasp the reference
relating to the absence
of self-consciousness or shyness,
embarrassment or reticence.
You may be inclined to scoff:
I knew Winnie the Pooh
but not Benjamin Hoff
(let alone Chaung Tzu).
As for yin and yang,
dualism and Wan Wu,
I only felt a pang.
When it came to Tso-Wang
I didn’t suffer torture;
“sitting and forgetting”
is part of my nature.
I’m not one for go-getting;
I am, you will find,
a very simple mind.
