Smoothies

They stood on the shelf
next to the crisps
all innocent looking
with a smile on their lips,
the smoothies.
Seeing them she felt
a slight chill
and recalled that
she had had her fill
of smoothies in the past.
With a velvet tongue
they told many lies,
professing their love,
with shifty eyes.
The inevitable outcome
would never alter
she went all the way
but not to the altar.
She was wiser now
but if she told the truth
she did not regret
developing a sweet tooth.
