Coloured glass, coloured glass,
Saw it in Silver's when I was a lass.
Bowls of yellow and bowls of blue,
Bowls of green and every hue,
Purple, vermilion, cranberry,
In a shop window in Amberley.
Coloured glass
Coloured glass
Always wanted coloured glass.
Aunty Olive came to stay.
Had a necklace to give away.
Said, "When you're big we'll buy you jet
Or pearls maybe but not just yet.
Pretend it's gold though it's only brass,"
But I really wanted coloured glass.
Coloured glass
Coloured glass
Beads round the neck of a growing lass.
Went to church and I saw the light
Shining through when the sun was bright,
Every window telling me a story,
The Lord and his mother and the saints in glory.

Speaks to us when we celebrate Mass.
Went to the vestry, saw Mrs Powers.
She gets out the vases and fills them with flowers.
Says, "I'll have the red and the yellow and the blue,
But I'm tired of this and I'll give it to you."
It's tall and fluted and green as grass,
And that's how I got my coloured glass.

Stick some daffs in a vase of glass.
Went to the shop and I bought some more.
Got tumblers and bowls and bottles galore
And the vase that was nearly thrown away,
They glow in a row on the peep-o'-day.
Coloured glass
Coloured glass
And I gaze and I gaze at my coloured glass.
