Missed Opportunities

He's just another boy
trying to forget the past
but he knows you're no angel
and he might make it last,
and if this were the one
wouldn't that change it all,
no more skulking in corners
with your back to the wall,
'Cos you know you've got it in you
to get up off the floor,
you just need some assurance
you won't be lonely no more.
And in the end,
when push turned to shove,
circumstances
shoved harder my love.
And I suppose there's no shame
in letting it slide,
I'm back where I started
I've still got my pride,
but I would've liked that chance,
that single shot,
when you aint got the nerve
you deserve your lot.
And you, with your hair tied back
or let down free,
your stilted walk
when you didn't talk to me,
and behind those glasses
so sad and serene,
I'll get bogged down
in what could have been.
Missed opportunities
are all I regret.
Just holding fast
to my self respect.
