The Evolving Universe

Thinking about Relativity it occurred to me that it is mostly about view-points.
It allows observers from many different positions to find a way to compare their experiences.
In a way it makes it clear that what we perceive is hugely effected by where we stand.
This set me thinking that it might be possible to get a different view of the Universe if I imagined I was an observer that followed its development from creation to now - or at least followed the most widely held theory of its development - rather than as an observer just experiencing the viewpoint from where I am physically.
It seemed to me that it was like the story of a living thing; born from a seed and constantly growing and changing as it developed in both size and complexity.
Starting out, perhaps, as almost pure energy it followed its programming creating particles and then hydrogen, then forming suns to create more elements from which to create ever more varied and complex forms of matter.
Once the necessary building blocks had been created then planets could be constructed and the sunshine from the stars could be used as an energy source to give rise to a myriad of carbon based structures that could adapt to their surroundings and even, eventually, change their surroundings.
Because we are a development of the carbon based constructions we tend to think of life as being essentially limited to similar structures and fail to see that life has been present all along guiding itself from egg to adult.
Yet as the Universe passes through stages of development, as it grows, so does all forms of life.
To consider our own development from monkey to man we must first consider if it would have been possible if the dinosaurs had not died out.
Hollywood films of man managing to create simple forms of civilisation never really explain how apes could make the transition from tree dwellers to cave men with giant reptiles stomping about the place - luckily they didn’t need to… but was it luck?
If we step back a bit and look at nature we see that it also has developed in stages.
Plants, simple sea life to fish, then from sea to land, insects and mammals…
So, we can see that the same process is present in all forms of evolution.
A steady increase in complexity based on stages of development.
I would argue that the latest step is the search for ordered living amongst life forms; the family, the herd, the hive...
I would speculate that the same thing that has developed life forms from amoeba to their present state of complexity is now searching for the next stage of development beyond the unforgiving ‘laws of nature'.
An effective way for intelligent life to order itself and live in harmony with its surroundings.
A way to evolve beyond forming into competing groups that argue and fight over power, resources and belief systems.
To evolve beyond being a race that is effectively threatening the previous stages of development, which were, and still are, necessary for its own survival.
I’d say that Communism, Capitalism and even Democracy have been weighed and found wanting…
I'd say that we have to find a better way, very soon, of looking at life and its purpose.
It should not be a contest between countries and classes, between strong and weak, between head and heart but as John Lennon Imagined a brotherhood of man.
We have to find a way to develop and somehow learn to overcome the instincts and habits that are a legacy of our animal ancestry - to evolve from creatures of habit into enlightened beings.
If we don’t stop destroying the balance of the planet with our present short-sighted race to nowhere then the consequences will be dire and we will find that we have blindly created a world in which we cannot survive and we will go the way of the dinosaur.
We must save the planet and, by so doing, save ourselves and our children's future!
We can't continue to let them fob us off with promises of future action and failure to keep what few token promises they have actually made.
If the planet belongs to anyone is it the people or is it the rulers who pretend to serve them?
If your house is on fire you don't stand around - haggling about which family members can afford to help put it out and how much the others must pay who argue they have more important things to do - you put it out.
“Imagine there's no countries. It isn't hard to do
Nothing to kill or die for and no religion too
Imagine all the people living life in peace...
You may say I'm a dreamer but I'm not the only one
I hope someday you'll join us and the world will be as one.“
John Lennon.
