Skronk

An odd word describing
sounds sputtering
then squalling
then blasting
from the bell
of a bass clarinet
that tight drum sound
that sounds like someone
tapping
then the skronk
that sounds like a cry
to the souls of the dead
calling them back to the land of the living
a cry of desolation
a cry of exasperation
a cry of naked expression
the sound of the blues
and the abstract truth.
( An old poem from my open mic days some 20 years ago, I was reading a lot of the Beat Poets at the time , and the book 'But Beautiful ' by Geoff Dyer, which was a big influence . I was also listening to lots of jazz and the music of Eric Dolphy inspired this one)
