Dead-eyed , drifting, homeless, rolling,
streetwise kids , and bedroll beggars,
Buckfast couraged, words declaiming,
Shopdoor slurring , slumped and bleary.
Armed with Special Brew and crutches,
street troops holding court al fresco,
previous lifetimes in total recall,
urban streets, their battlefield.
Halfway homebound , slouched on buses,
shiftless workers gaze at I-phones,
Smeary windows glower reflections,
mirrored selfies, lost in thought.
Neon neverwhere, bustling with radiance,
the city of contrasts , the coin's flipside,
Doorway dwellers at their thresholds,
hardened by life with hats full of rain.
