COMMUNE

My community never sleeps
Day and night time
They know of the stranger who weeps
My community never sleeps
Guarding and never missing a thing
They have a thousand tales to tell
All of wishing well
It harbours so many secrets that it keeps
My community never sleeps
They know of every stranger and scar
Every licence plate or car
and of the one who in the street bleeds
My community never sleep
They stand guard day and night
There's so many underlying battles
They have to fight
Still it's their own they'll protect and keep

Is this an ode to a vigil
I found this interesting. It kind of frightens me too but maybe this is sign of powerful poem.

Can I talk a bit more about
Can I talk a bit more about this. It is well formed and shaped into a pretty much perfect poem but is the content that interest me. Im going to be honest it made me emotional reading this and my first thoughts were no way I not like is this an ode to a vigilante. How can this be called poetry.
But then I chilled and looked deeper. There clearly is a an almost vigil ante theme but why not. Have people not a right to make there communitys safe. What if I had kids would I not want to know if a convicted paedophile or seriel rapist was next door. The community has a right to defence. They were my rational thoughts.
And from those rational thoughts came the conclusion that if this poem is triggering my emotions then is sign of good poem.
But past the rational thoughts now.
The realisation that I am the stranger the loner. I may be that shadow who bleeds and it hurt me to think that rationalism and focused intelligence is the main player in the community. For reasons I am that person not in anyway bad but a loner a person the system dislikes for what ever reasons.
And all people have a right to rehabitation even if convicted of the worst crimes.
The community needs to remember that person who bleeds has a mother is a son of equal love.
We need to steer away from emotional sudden fears and learn balanced thoughts.
Sorry for goin on.
The poem you wrote I never read a poem like this before.
I think your poem stands the test of time not in a way I would personally hope but nevertheless a piece of work symbolic of the times we live in.
Keep writing.
Kind regards and seasons greetings

Mary-Ann, I don't follow this
Mary-Ann, I don't follow this totally, but thought it was probably about a caring community, either a commune as you indicate, or just a friendly neighbourhood, where everyone is looking out for each other's concerns, loneliness, distresses? But I didn't think you meant in the vigilante-type of private policing??

Hi rhiannon w. Fair point you
Hi rhiannon w. Fair point you have made. I admit my thoughts and analyism of the poem may be different from the authors. But within poetry is it so true that we all take the same meanings from a poem.
Is it not acceptable that we may come to different meanings and within this does one persons thoughts even if more alligned with the authors meaning. What im trying to say that is there not more than one meaning to be taken from a poem.
I come to my views from the lines talking about
The stranger who weeps
To me
Contradicts
The idea of the community.
A community is inclusive. If it was such a community why would a stranger be weeping.
Also
It harbours many secrets
What kind of secrets. Why secrecy inspires thoughts of something is not well in this community.
The last stanza.
The community never sleeps
They stand gaurd day and night
Theres so many battles.
Maybe im reading this in to much of literal way.
Is an interesting poem for me anyway. I just thought I would try and expand on my thoughts.

Hi, Steve. We'll have to see
Hi, Steve. We'll have to see what the author says, if she wants to. I think I was thinking that even in a caring community there are those who feel loneliness and secrets, and others watch out for them and try to care for them even if they can't share their troubles in words. Rhiannon

Hi rhiannon to be honest I
Hi rhiannon to be honest I think your thoughts are probably correct. I think my thinking is a bit more sensitive, if this is the right word.
But
Is maybe healthy that we come to different views like I said is maybe the sign of a poem.
It would be interesting to hear what the author thinks of the comments if she wanted to leave some.
