BITING THE BULLET.

Dementia is no joke! I have met people with dementia and my Mum has it.
Because Mum has dementia, I decided to eat olives. When I first started to eat them, for ‘medical’ reasons, I hated them, they tasted bitter. I have a Sweet tooth. After about four months, I loved it! The funny thing is, often when I buy a jar, I forget to eat them.
Then later on, walnuts they too, has been known to be good to slow down memory loss. They say, it looks like a brain. I am not keen on nuts, only Marathon and Topic’s and Fruit and Nuts. Nuts in any other form, does nothing for me. My Mums favourite nuts are cashew. I think they are bland.
From time to time, I do buy a small pack of walnuts and try to eat one or two a day, but apparently a handful is the amount that should be eaten each day. That’s not happening, they are too horrible. So, they go off, and I buy another pack a year later, as I try not to give up, but keep going. When I taste them again, I remember that I just don’t like them, no matter what.
My brother is a Nurse, and a Personal Trainer, I remember many years ago, he told me how, “Good avocado is.” He said, “The nutrients that is in an avocado, can not be found in any other food.” I said, “That’s a shame, as I’ve tried it, and it just feels slimy.”
In the reduced section of my superstore, there was guacamole, avocado without the avocado taste, it is mixed up and hidden. That I came to love.
My Mum loves avocado, where she grew up, it is called a pear. I bought her some recently, and she had it for breakfast, with her fry up. For Mum, a cooked breakfast is her favourite meal of the day now. Now that I have remembered that Mum loves avocados, I will buy her some each time I visit her.
I went to my superstore this afternoon, and saw some avocados reduced, I thought I would try again and taste one. It was now 34p and I assume ripe, it chose the firmest one.
There were two slices of take away pizza from yesterday, that I had saved for my brunch today. I decided to have six of my piccobella tomatoes, lots of salad cream, and a whole avocado. I tasted it on it own, it made me gag. I had to put mind over matter. It was now or never. I decided to not eat it on its own, but with all of the lovely food on my plate. I could not taste it, so that was a good thing. I enjoyed my meal. I have saved the stone, as a trophy. I hope in a few months to plant it and see what happens. If I get mini avocados then great, if not then, it would have been fun trying.
I will buy another avocado, when I see it again reduced.

And... I'll confess to being a vegetarian , not 100% vegan, for me it works in the sense I dont get cold as fast, endurance is extended, more flexible, sleep better +++... But its not for everyone... Go for it Maxine* I'm a believer - theres always lifestyle changes that lead to come back stories....
Love Avocados & Olives

Pizza....
I'm a pizza fan Maxine .... I go with out the meat... but... I'm all in including making it myself.... inspired by watching Jamie Oliver. Over time cooking turned into hobby/sport for me, if not an obsession at times..... Your brother is right... if you can acquire a little love for an Avocado its good stuff.... I would add, one thing moves into another... I dont claim to have all the answers & I'm not one of those Veggies that preach... it worked for me.... BTW- I consume about 3,000+ calories a day... in that veggie lifestyle change over a decade ago, sugar & salt were really tough to get rid of...(uff)
All good Maxine... best wishes...
