We went to the capital of Malta, Valletta, it was a very hot day. After we had been to the amazing cathedral, we went to another part of Valletta.
Meghan had booked the holiday, as all inclusive, it was my first time on a holiday for over 15 years. I had never been to an all-inclusive holiday before; I had enjoyed the 3-4 times a day of the buffet food. I felt like I had put on a stone, because of the vast choice of delicious food at the hotel.
Meghan was my guide, 100%. A wide part of Valletta has very steep steps! I had never seen anything like it in my entire life! So, to get anywhere, we had to climb, what seemed like 50 steps to get to the top, and then 50 steps to get down the other side. It seemed harder because it was very hot. I thought I was quite fit, but those steps defeated me, and halfway I would say to Meghan, “I’ve got to stop and take a breath.” It made me feel old, then I reminded myself, I am officially a senior, that must count for something. I had no strength to smile, on the outside, so I smiled on the inside, at the thought of that.
At one point, I felt I was in purgatory, and I did not know how to get out!! It was awful. I did not know when it would end.
Then suddenly at the top of the steps, high up, I saw some cushions on my left, and a man was sitting on them, my first thought, was he was a beggar. Why else would he be sitting on the floor and on cushions, in the town?
We walked down these steep steps, and noticed on my left and right, tables and chairs, on the steep steps! I have never seen anything like it in my life! How can anyone, enjoying a meal, sitting high up on steep steps, seated at a chair that is at the top of a steep high steps. I wanted to take a picture, as I take a picture of everything, if it moves or not, but as the cafes both sides, all the way down to the bottom, were full of customers, and we were close to them, it would have been very rude to take their picture. I tried to explain it to some family and friends on my return, but it was hard for them to picture it so I googled it, “Seating area on the steps.” There I saw the actual steps that I was on. I said to Meghan, “Can you imagine falling from here to the very bottom?” I need to google that, for I don’t think they would be in very good shape at the bottom, there would be nothing to stop them, or break their fall, unless they were lucky enough to fall into the tables and chairs on the way down!! If someone was drunk at the top, and fell it would be curtains, for sure. Eventually after too many stairs up and down, we eventually escaped the dreaded steps.
The stone that I felt I had put on due to the delicious food, I was sure I lost 2 stone because of those steps! So, that was a positive.
My Guide, Meghan wanted to go to the Waterfront next. We tried to walk there, but after walking a while in the heat, Meghan’s feet were killing her, my sandals, that I bought for the holiday, were nice and comfy. She suddenly said, “I’ve booked an Uber to take us to the Waterfront.” We were seated near a nice car park and a small taxi rank. Within minutes a lovely female taxi driver arrived and took us to the Waterfront.
There, were lots of restaurants and bars, and a huge sports flat screen telly. There was not any customer yet, it was interesting to watch the staff, getting ready for the many customers that would be there later.
What made this amazing for me, was that there was a huge ship docked there. We had first seen it in the distance. It was big then, but now, as it stood in front of us, I had never seen anything as big as this ship. I was too hot to try and take a picture or even a 5 second-video clip of it. I wished I had now.
Even though it was massive, I knew the Titanic was even bigger than this. I am guessing, if I were to walk from one end to the other, of this ship, it would take in the heat, 30 minutes easily.
Just like I do not like flying, as it amazes me how a metal plane can take off, stay in the air and land again safely. Meghan said, “The huge sea is amazing, how a ship can stay on top of the water and not sink,” She had a good point, she went on, “If I put a penny on the water, it will sink.” So true. I thought again of the Titanic. It was a deep moment for us both.

My dad loved Malta because it
My dad loved Malta because it was Catholic and boiling hot. I'm pretty sure most cruise ships are bigger than the Titanic. Inflation at sea. These boats are mini-cities. They stopped building them as big as major cities during and after Covid-19.

They do get a lot of those
They do get a lot of those huge cruise ships in Malta, the passengers disembark and 'do Malta', then get back on their ship again. Not sure that's my idea of a holiday but some people love it
I've done those stairs Maxine - it does get easier the more you do them!

Oh! I agree with you, Maxine,
Oh! I agree with you, Maxine, would feel too dizzy to want to eat sitting on such steep stairs :0) It does look magical though! And all that sunshine! Though I guess the heat must bounce off the walls. But we have had such a dark year so far, wish I could jump in a Tardis and step out in Malta, just for a little bit :0) If you had stayed on a cruise ship you would never have got to see so much, and always be worrying about whether you were on time incase you get left behind! Seeing that ship must have been like on Star Wars when huge space ships land beside people! I wonder if such huge things in the water make the sea levels rise in harbours, when they come in? Even the little ferry on the island where I live makes quite big waves on the beach
