I felt like this morning I sort of had an epiphany! The thought that suddenly came to my mind, I decided to act upon it.
I decided instead of going into the big store and telling them that I have changed my mind, I decided to first ring the Company who is also very well known, and telling them what I was about to do, and hopefully they would see how silly it was that they had SO many rules and regulations and was doing themselves out of Customers. I know my money to them was only £150.00 nothing to them but a lot to us, but if 10,000 people pulled out, that is a lot of £150’s.
I rang and spoke to Gemma. I explained the situation and she said, “I will go through with you, how to send the photos of your cooker to me.” I was on my own, as my kids were at work and my husband was asleep. I said to Gemma, “If you can get me to send pictures to you of my cooker, then you are in the wrong job!” I went on, “IF you can do that, then you should leave your job and take up teaching old people in their 80’s and 5-year-old’s technology,” She laughed and said, “Thank you, we will have to wait and see what happens in the next few minutes. She checked to make sure that she had my mobile number, in case we were cut off.
Gemma asked me to, “Take pictures of your cooker, I asked Gemma, “If I take pictures, will I cut you off?” She said, “No.” I took seven pictures, she told me to press on each one until a tick arrived…. With her guidance, slowly I did everything she asked. Then I got to the stage where it said, to send an email, slowly she spelling each word out I typed in what she said. Then Gemma said, “Now press send.” I did what I was told, we both waited, nothing happened. Gemma said, “I will phone you back in one hour, by then the pictures should have arrived to me.” It was my day off, and I was about to leave the house, to walk into Town. I sighed inside, and said, “OK,” For I realized, this was on my list of things to do today, a process.
Gemma rang me an hour later, and by now Paul had woken up, so I wasn’t on my own, he is cleverer with computer things, than I am. I informed her that, “Paul was with me now.”
She surprised me and said, “Forget the photos, all I want you to do is measure the distance, from your cooker to the plugs above it on the wall.” Paul went and measured the distance and said, “It is 63cm,” Gemma said, “For our Company to install your oven the distance must be 73cm,” She went on, “You will need to get an electrician, to get the plugs removed.” Paul told her, “We can’t afford that,” She said, “Due to the heat, it has to be 73cm above the cooker.” I said, “These plugs have been here forever, the house is over one hundred years old.” It seemed liked we had reached stalemate. She said, “Well we can not install the cooker until they are removed,” I replied, “Well you will need to cancel the order.” She said, “OK, you will need to let the other company know.” I replied, “I will,” And I ended the conversation with, “Thank you for your help.” Gemma said, “It was my pleasure, sorry that I wasn’t able to help you get your cooker.”
I rang the large Company next, and explained about the 73cm etc. The order was quickly cancelled.
When Meghan came home for work, I told her about the cooker saga, and she said, “I wonder if the new rules will apply to the local little shops too?” I said, “Well if it does, we will just have to keep this battered, tatty old cooker forever!”
I’ve got Paul on the case, he is good at finding whatever it is that we need on his mobile phone, that only works in the house using the WI-FI, outside the house, he has no internet. I am confident soon, he will find us the perfect cooker, with the perfect price, fitted by the perfect guy!
