I didn't know what to say to you
you had hair exactly as I like it
but I couldn't think of what to say
so I said
"Is it Wednesday or Thursday?"

You told me it was Thursday
and you knew because that's the day
your wheelie bin gets emptied.
I told you about my wheelie bin

and the man that stole it
and how I followed him to his back garden
and he only wanted it because he was chopping down

his hedges.
It was when we walked
about my bicycle chain
becoming dismantled
on a weekend trip to Cambridge
that I realised we were holding hands

and when you said you collected caterpillars
in jam jars
is when I realised we were naked.
