We don't make each other laugh anymore

You made the bed in our hotel room
couldn't leave it to the chambermaid
I think you needed something
to distract you.
You looked out of the window
at the fresh Paris morning
with your back turned.
I didn't touch the breakfast
by the bed
just stared at the floor
thinking things would never
be as bad again.
We don't make each other laugh anymore
I used to make you giggle
until you went bright red
I remember the time
lemonade came out your nose.
I closed the door.
and wished my last memory of you
wasn't your look of relief
as I said goodbye.
